Buschwick, better known as Schwick, is a giant cockroach that appeared in Courage in the Big Stinkin' City serving as the main antagonist.

Personality

He is a shifty, argumentative urban insect with a suspiciously repetitive speech pattern. He's very convincing and deceiving; residing in the Radio City Music Hall basement and luring people in with misleading signs or promises of concessions, before having them be eaten by a mysterious creature locked up in a mouse hole. The exact nature of this process is unknown, though he has connections to creepy, abandoned areas that perhaps make it better left unsaid.

Despite being a serial killer, he willingly converses with Eustace Bagge, as the two debate boxers vs. briefs and compare leg hair.

History

Originally from Bushwick, Schwick became an infamous criminal wanted for owning an evil package. After luring a number of people to their bony demise, he attracted Muriel Bagge and her family, who went to New York City that day when Schwick claimed that she had won the opportunity to participate in a sitar contest. Troubled by a plea for help written on the window that could alert the Bagges of his plan, he requested that Courage claim a package, without the interference of cops. When he returned, the content of the box (a squeegee) was bent, and so he angrily chased the dog to the stage but was kicked into a brass instrument's bell and arrested by the policeman. (Ep.15-2)

Trivia

• Schwick apparently despises being referred to by his full name, "Buschwick", angrily yelling at anyone who calls him that. It is likely to hide his identity as a criminal.
• Schwick doesn't seem to comprehend that Courage is the Bagge's pet, and frequently refers to him as "[their] son" throughout the episode.
• When it comes to underwear, Schwick has a strong preference for boxers (which he apparently wears under his carapace). This opinion is a point of significant contention with Eustace, who feels that briefs are superior.
• In the Japanese dub, his name is Abu, which is the Japanese word for horsefly.
• His voice actor was thought to be Paul Schoeffler (via John R. Dilworth sending a text regarding the question on who voiced the character), until it was confirmed to be Andre Soggliuzzo.
• Bushwick is the name of a real town in Brooklyn, New York. It is unknown why Schwick was named after the town he was born in. It's possible his parents could've just been lazy, that is if Schwick even has any.
  • As such, Schwick speaks with a distinct Brooklyn accent.
• It's possible that whoever he orders the brush from, packaged it the same way as the infamous Evil Package, explaining why the cops kept following.
• John Dilworth confirmed that the pet was actually a hamster.^[1]
